Hi there!
My name is Leria Lai, a passionate person who is interested in Arts and Game Design.
When I was a child, it became evident that I possessed a unique and innate artistic talent. While other children were content with the simple joy of coloring within the lines, I found myself captivated by the possibilities of artistic expression.
After finishing my high school years, I successfully persuaded my parents to allow me to attend an art school as an art student. I worked very hard to study art systematically. Eventually, I was admitted to the Department of Visual Communication Design, Academy of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University, which is one of the top art schools worldwide.
Later by chance, I learned about the Game Jam, an activity for game makers to make a game within two days. It sounded very interesting to me. I did play games, but I'd never imagined that I would one day make them. So I decided to give it a try. Not soon after started, I immediately realized the fun of making games. I expressed my opinions on the gameplay and art style excitedly with my teammates. I found myself completely enjoying the whole process. I contributed to the game concept and was responsible for the entire art part of the project. Although we did not win a prize in the end, our game has received a lot of praise. My teammates also recognized my talents in game design and art. I realized that doing game things is my true love. Since then, I started dreaming of becoming a game designer.
I love exquisite games with innovative art styles. In the future, I want to become a game designer who would start designing a game by thinking about its artistic expression form and art style. I have studied art for many years so I believe that a creative game can initiate from a set of fancy art concepts and then introduce gameplay mechanics based on its art expression form. I want to leverage my art skills and wild imagination to create exquisite games with fresh emotional experience, eventually, developing a unique Art-driven game design style. I believe this will bring new possibilities to the game industry. Among my game design showcases, the Set Off! is a typical example of my design style. In this game, players will face farewells at significant moments in life. The only task is to choose the items they want to pack in their luggage before each departure. The inspiration of the game came from my personal experiences. Initially, I only imagined the scenes of saying goodbye to my parents. I gradually figured out the best gameplay for this game was simply allowing players to pack their luggage and say goodbye to people at the end. As players progress through the protagonist’s different life stages, they will gradually understand the deeper meaning of growing up.
Also, I am planning to start a art design studio dedicated to researching the synergism of arts with games. In order to learn art design in depth and to make my studio attempts, I am eager to enter graduate studies. I am also looking forward to meeting more high-level friends who might be my partners in the future. I believe that after studying art design as a graduate student, I will be able to create more mind-blowing works.
